Line of the Night: December 3rd

Rookie sensation Michael Carter-Williams posted a triple-double to earn Line of the Night.

Rookie sensation Michael Carter-Williams posted a triple-double to earn Line of the Night.

Arron Affalo posted a career high 43 points in a double-overtime thriller, but it was not enough to overcome Michael Carter-Williams’ triple-double as the 76ers beat the Orlando Magic but the narrowest of margins.  The other Rookie of the Year candidate, Victor Oladipo also posted a triple-double in the game, giving fans great night that may be a taste of what may very well be a career-long rivalry between the two young starts.  Jordan Crawford posted a game-high 25 points as the Celtics beat the Bucks.  The Nets continue to struggle as the lost to the Denver Nuggets.  Brian Shaw brought the bench out early to mop up the floor at the Barclays Center, giving Timothy Mozgov time to rack up an evening-high 20 rebounds.  The Pistons exposed the Heat’s weak spot as their front court when to work on Miami’s, though in Miami’s defense Wade did miss the game.  Andre Drummond pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds.  Memphis got double-doubles out of Ed Davis, Michael Conley and Kosta Koufos as they beat the Phoenix Suns: who needs Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol?  The Mavericks beat the Bobcats: a mundane game was had by all.  The Thunder beat the Kings by a basket as Kevin Durant scored a game-high 27 points.  And the Warriors earned a win over the Raptors as they came back from 27 points down.  Stephen Curry posted a game-high  27 points and handed out 10 assists while pulling in 5 steals.

Victor Olapido, MCW's main competition for the ROY award, also posted a triple-double, earning him Line of the Night as well.

Victor Oladipo, MCW’s main competition for the ROY award, also posted a triple-double, earning him Line of the Night as well.

There are three good picks for Line of the Night this evening.  Affalo posted an amazing 43 points, but though he would be a great pick on any other night, Carter-Williams and Oladipo both had stellar games. Their scoring was about equal, with a slight edge going to MCW who had a higher FG%.  MCW also had an edge with the rebounds.  Their assist and steals numbers were identical, but Oladipo only produced 3 turnovers, whereas MCW made 7 turnovers.  I’m going to go with a tie here.  MCW got a missed three fewer shots from the floor, but Oladipo had a better FT%.  MCW pulled down 2 more rebounds, but also handed out 4 more turnovers.  These games are too evenly weighted, so both players will be awarded Line of the Night.
