George Hill had a career night, earning Line of the Night and leading the Pacers to a win.

Last night’s main event saw two of the best records in the league go head to head as Portland visited Indiana.  In their first meeting, the Trailblazers came out on top.  Last night, fans were not disappointed as the two teams were evenly matched and the game went into overtime with the Pacers coming out on top.  Damian Lillard scored an evening-high 38 points, but George Hill’s  career-high 37 points, which came in a near triple-double, was enough to earn the Pacers the win.  The Thunder were likely hoping to get an easy win over the Magic, but ended up losing by the narrowest of margins to the league’s second worst team.  Kevin Durant posted a 20/10 game for the Thunder.  The Lakers earned a win over the 76ers in a game where not a simple player managed to reach the 20-point mark.  Kyrie Irving and John Wall, two of the league’s top young point guards, went head-to-head.  Wall won the match-up, but it was the Cavs who came away with a win over the Wizards.  The Boston Celtics hosted the Sacramento Kings with big men Jared Sullinger and DeMarcus Cousins both scoring 31 points and both grabbing 16 rebounds.  Cousins was the more efficient player, but it was the Celtics that came away with the win.

DeMarcus Cousins had a monster night against the Celtics, but the Kings were unable to translate that to a win.

After a great start to the new year, the Nets are not 2-4 over their last six games with their most recent loss coming in a road game against the Pistons.  The Nets could not overcome an evening-high 22 rebounds from Andre Drummond and two near triple-doubles from Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith.  Carmelo Anthony’s former team visited him in Madison Square Garden and as a welcome present Anthony dropped 31 points on them, leading the Knicks to a win over the Nuggets.  The Dallas Mavericks brought their bench out early as they ran away with a game against the Jazz.  Not a single player managed a double-double in the game.  Kevin Love and Anthony Davis squared off, both scoring 26 points.  Love, however, out rebounded Davis 19-10.  Despite this edge, it was the Pelican who came away with the win over the Timberwolves.  And finally, the Raptors fell to the Clippers.  DeMar DeRozen and Blake Griffin both scored 36 points in the game.

There are a number of solid performances.  Nine players broke the 30 –point mark: Cousins’ 31 points and 16 rebounds are impressive, as was Jennings’ near triple-double.  Likewise, Lillard’s evening-high 38 points impressive, not to mention Carmelo Anthony’s performance that included 31 points in 3 quarters.  My pick for Line of the Night, though, goes to George Hill.  Hill was only 1 point shy of the evening high, and he was close to posting a triple-double with 9 rebounds and 8 assists.  Coupled with this, Hill also contributed some respectable defensive stats as well, and led his team to an overtime win over one of the best teams in the league.  And it doesn’t hurt that he hit a game-tying 3-pointer at the end of regulation to force the overtime period.
