Line of the night: 12.26.13 (Boxing Day Edition)

Kyrie Irving led all scorers with 40 points last night.

Despite playing back-to-back games with what many refer to as an ‘aged’ roster, the Spurs bounced back fairly nicely following a loss to the Houston Rockets with a win the Dallas Mavericks, another state rival.  Tim Duncan grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.  Danny Green was 5/5 from the arch.  The Rockets weathered a big night from Zach Randolph as they beat Memphis: 100-92.  Randolph had a game-high 17 rebounds, which is pretty good for a guy who can jump over a pancake, and James Harden only made 2 field goals, but still had a game-high 27 points as a result of 25 free-throw shots he was award.  The Atlanta Hawks and the Cleveland Cavaliers went into double overtime, with Jeff Teague posting a team-high 34 points and hitting the game winner.  Kyrie Irving’s evening-high 40 points was spoiled by a disappointing loss.  And the Portland Trailblazers managed a win against the Clippers, in the second overtime game of the night.  Blake Griffin had a game-high 35 points, Chris Paul had a game-high 16 assists, and DeAndre Jordan had a game-high 19 rebounds, but it was not enough to overcome a solid team effort by the Trailblazers.

Jordan, Paul and Griffin all posted game-highs, but it was not enough to get the win.

Irving 40 points is impressive, as is Jeff Teague’s game winning shots, not to mention the 30/10 games posted by LMA and Blake Griffin, but for me, Chris Paul is the clear-cut pick for Line of the Night.  His 34 points was higher than anybody outside of Irving and Griffin, but his 16 assists puts him in rare company, especially when you consider that he only committed a single turnovers, while Irving and Teague had 6 turnovers each.  Paul’s 6 steals is just icing on the cake.
