Line of the Night: 12.22.13

Lance Stephenson posted his third triple-double of the season.

The Toronto Raptors went into Oklahoma City for what was expected to be an easy win for the Thunder, and surprised the West’s best team.  Kevin Durant had another sub-par night, by Kevin Durant standards at least, and Russell Westbrook could not shoulder the extra load alone, though he did post a game-high 27 points.  Larry Bird’s Pacers hosted his former team as Indiana rolled past the Boston Celtics.  Boston’s leading scorer posted a paltry 13 points, while the Pacers got a game-high 24 points from Paul George and Lance Stephenson posted his third triple-double of the season.  And in the main event of the NBA’s triple-header, the Minnesota Timberwolves went into overtime with the Los Angeles Clippers.  Kevin Love had an epic night, outscoring the night highest individual total by 11 points, and also grabbing an evening-high 19 rebounds, which is especially impressive considering he was competing with DeAndre Jordan for rebounds all night.  But his performance was not enough as the Clippers manage to pull away with a win in the overtime period.

Nikola Pekovic looked like an MVP candidate last night.

Nikola Pekovic looked like an MVP candidate last night.

On most any other night, Nikola Pekovic would be the clear-cut choice to Line of the Night, but playing alongside a talent like Kevin Love makes it hard to shine.  With 45 points and 19 rebounds, it’s hard to give the LOTN to anybody but Kevin Love.  Those are some Wilt Chamberlain numbers there.
