Kevin Martin Headed to Minny; Reddick Headed to Clipperland

Kevin Martin.

Kevin Martin.

In what is sure to be a big blow to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Kevin Martin has just agreed to terms with the Minnesota Timberwolves.  Martin is not to be confused with the Irish hurler or the Canadian curler who share the same name (and don’t evne ask me what a hurler is).  The sharp-shooting guard, whose percentages took a slight dip when he became the go-to man in Houston, saw his shooting woes disappear last season as he returned to form while defenses had to focus on Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.  Martin was a key piece for the Thunder’s bench and was the team’s third leading scorer.  The trade will re-unite Martin with coach Rick Adelman, marking the third time the two have worked together.  They both formerly worked together in Sacramento and Houston.  The Timberwolves also reached an agreement with forward Chase Budinger.

Both Tiago Splitter and his thick head of hair will be returning to the Spurs next season.

The Spurs have likewise managed to retain one of their key free agent in Tiago Splitter.  There were rumours that the Spurs were working on a trade for the Suns’ Marcin Gortat and while the deal may not be dead, it seems like the Spurs are very happy with Splitter and plan on keeping the center.  A deal for Boris Diaw and filler in return for Gortat is still possible, but is certainly less appealing for the Suns than a deal that would have netted the Suns Splitter.  Some analysts might suggest that it was Splitter’s thick head of hair, in contrast to Gortat’s balding hair line that made the difference for the Spurs, but I for one don’t think the organization would discriminate against players with thin hair considering how well they’ve done with Manu Ginobili.

Eric Bledsoe will be headed to Phoenix this upcoming season.

And a three-team deal is in the works as the Clippers, Bucks and Suns seem to have made arragments that will send guard J. J. Reddick to the Clippers.  Jared Dudley would also land in LA in the deal while combo guard Eric Bledsoe would wind up in Phoenix, making a deal between the Suns and the Pelicans for disgruntled shooting guard Eric Gordon (also a former Clipper) far less likely.  Caron Butler, former all-star, will also be headed to Phoenix while the Bucks will be rewarded for helping to facilitate the trade via a sign-and-trade with two second round picks which I’m sure they are counting on to help them rebuild a franchise that has been in perpetual re-building mould ever since they traded Ray Allen in 2003.
